The Ibiza video arrived yesterday Tuesday, after a long swing at the U-Committee. Justice Minister Alma Zadic (Green) had ordered the Vienna Prosecutor’s Office to forward the files to Parliament. A spokeswoman said Zadic was concerned that the U-Committee could function in the best possible way.
However, there was harsh criticism from the opposition. There was talk of a diversionary maneuver before today’s questioning of the president of the National Council and the president of the committee, Wolfgang Sobotka (VP). “That is definitely a pure coincidence,” said SP’s parliamentary group leader Kai Jan Krainer wryly. For the leader of the Neos parliamentary group, Stephanie Krisper, the moment is “particularly remarkable”.
Also the fact that the video has not been broadcast in its entirety, but about four and a half hours out of seven, causes a lack of knowledge. The leader of the FP parliamentary group, Christian Hafenecker, said, for example, that the material that has been broadcast now is likely to “have no value for political education”. Vice President Wolfgang Gerstl’s parliamentary group leader called the criticisms “bizarre” and wanted a return for committee purposes. But Green MP David Stgmller also criticized the scope and timing of the broadcast: “We will not be distracted by this smoke grenade. Today and tomorrow it will be about how Turquoise-Blue wanted to rebuild the republic.” The video material can be seen from Friday.
The transmitted material consists of two data carriers containing image and audio documents, as well as transcripts. Everything that was taken by the Economic and Corruption Public Ministry (WKStA) was transmitted, said a spokesman for the Superior Prosecutor’s Office. According to the parliament, the material was classified as security level 1 (“restricted”). This means that the transcripts to be made available to MPs “quickly” can be negotiated in the media. The video itself can only be viewed by politicians in a room of the Parliamentary Directorate under supervision.
Today the Ibiza U Committee continues after the summer holidays. In addition to Sobotka, former Novomatic company spokesperson Bernhard Krumpel and Sigma Invest board member Markus Braun are invited.
On Thursday, the parliamentarians want to question former Finance Minister Hartwig Lger (VP), the General Director of Casinos Austria, Bettina Glatz-Kremsner and the Authorized Representative of Casinos-Austria, Peter Erlacher. (Arizona)
