A 58-year-old woman in Alberschwende, Bregenzerwald, cut her left thumb while cutting wood with a saw on Monday. She herself alerted the emergency physician, who first treated the woman and referred her to LKH Feldkirch. The firefighters and rescue team then had to search for the severed finger for 45 minutes, which could then be stitched up again.
According to police, the woman was chopping wood in her garage around 8 pm when her left hand went into the saw blade.
Thumb completely severed
The thumb was completely cut off. The emergency physician immediately began searching for the body part after treating the patient, but only the adventure in the crowded room seemed hopeless. Therefore, they alerted the fire brigade and the police for support. The thumb was found among the logs after about 45 minutes of searching.
The police then took the finger to the vascular surgery department at Feldkirch State Hospital, where the limb could be stitched up again. It remains to be seen if the replanting was successful.
