British reputation burns well | DiePresse.com

London’s indifferent handling of the Brexit treaty is damaging Britain’s reputation.

“Wait and go and drink tea” is one of the most boring sayings on the calendar with which one can torture others. Anyone who hears this Metternich among platitudes mobilizes the forces of persistence and relies on the corrosive effect of the time factor rather than following the dynamics of events. It can never be more reactionary.

With Brexit, however, we now have to jump into our shadows and reach for the pot of English breakfast. The latest ideas from the London government to unilaterally withdraw from parts of the already signed EU exit agreement, which according to British media should be published tomorrow, sound so blatant that they only allow for two conclusions: either Prime Minister Boris Johnson wants to burn all the bridges to Europe, or puts up a smokescreen behind which negotiations on the future relationship with the EU are finalized and the ground is prepared for compromises.

Johnson manages the fires in both cases and uses the UK’s reputation for fuel. If one is true, London will become an international pariah. But even with the second most harmless variant, the call in the EU for the fullest possible coverage to deal with the British will inevitably grow louder. What is true The election of death will take place at 10 Downing Street, excluding Europe. We can only hope. And you already know. . .
