The Dallas Stars have won the first final game of the Western Conference in the National Hockey League (NHL). They beat the Vegas Golden Knights 1-0 on Sunday at the start of the “Best of Seven” series.
John Klingberg scored the goal of the day in the third minute. Goalkeeper Anton Chudobin held on to victory, especially in the last third, and was the first to concede a goal in a play-off match.
The New York Islanders and the Tampa Bay Lightning will meet in the Eastern Conference starting Monday night.
Award for Dumba
Meanwhile, Minnesota Wild’s Matt Dumba received the King Clancy Memorial Trophy for his work against racism and for social justice. Awarded annually to the player (s) who best demonstrate leadership skills on and off the ice and who have made significant humanitarian contributions to their communities.
The defender, one of the few black NHL players, founded the Hockey Diversity Alliance along with other current and former black NHL players after the death of African American George Floyd from police violence in Minnesota in June.
