Missing hikers in Karwendel: the search for a 40-year-old man will continue

Scharnitz – A full-scale search was carried out on Sunday to find two missing mountaineers. One of the two searches was successful, the other had to be canceled for the time being.

A 40-year-old German has been wanted since Sunday morning. The man was on a two-day tour at the Karwendel and did not return until Saturday night. At 11 pm his wife reported him missing. In fact, it was agreed that she should have informed her before 8 pm The man had started her tour from Hinterrinex – Eng Alm. He did not have a cell phone with him.

On Sunday morning, emergency services began searching for the 40-year-old man. Search flights were only possible to a limited extent due to bad weather. Several teams mounted on foot and searched the areas of Hochglückkar, Zwerchloch, Vomperloch, Huderbank and the Lamsenspitze area. At 1740 hours the action had to be canceled unsuccessfully due to weather conditions. According to Schwaz police, the search is scheduled to resume on Monday morning.

48 year old found unharmed

A 48-year-old German took the train from Munich to Scharnitz on Friday. From there he began a tour of the Karwendel Mountains. On Saturday I wanted to go back to Munich by train. On Saturday afternoon, around 2 pm, he called his wife and told her that he would go down a signposted path through the Vomperloch to Vomp and take the next train to Munich. He will arrive there at 11 pm But then the man took longer than expected to descend and again spent the night in a hunting lodge in the “In der Au” area. The man had no cell phone reception there.

The wife reported the man’s disappearance when he did not appear and they could not locate him. The search began Sunday morning. The man was finally found in the Vomperloch area around 10:50 a.m., police wrote. He was unharmed. The 48-year-old was accompanied for a rescue on Vomperloch Mountain and taken to Schwaz. There he took the train to Munich.

The police helicopter, the alpine police and a total of 30 emergency services from the Schwaz, Hall in Tirol and Achenkirch mountain rescue services participated in both search operations, which included the same search area. (TT.com)
