Josef Köberl does not freeze so fast – PHOTO: APA
World record broken: two and a half hours in the ice chest.
Extreme athlete Josef Köberl set a new world record in an ice-filled glass booth on Saturday in Melk. Köberl lasted two hours, 30 minutes and 57 seconds in the ice cabin and thus improved by more than 20 minutes the previous record, which he himself had set at Vienna Central Station in August of the previous year.
The 42-year-old extreme athlete was covered in ice up to his shoulders in the glass booth and was wearing only swimming trunks. He was relieved after his successful world record attempt. “I’m very happy, especially the sun, the heat is good,” he said after leaving the ice cabin in the main square of Melker, where some spectators also saw the attempt to set the world record.
