This police operation exacerbates tensions in the United States: The man who allegedly killed a Trump supporter in Portland is now dead. Michael R. was shot after a chase with police.
reHis case made headlines in the United States: Michael R., a supposedly militant left-wing extremist who is said to have shot and killed a supporter of a right-wing group last weekend in Portland, Oregon, also died a violent death. Michael R., 48, was shot and killed in Lacey, Washington, when a federal task force attempted to arrest him, USA Today reports.
R. was the prime suspect in the murder of Aaron “Jay” D., 39, who was shot in the chest Saturday night on the sidelines of the demonstrations. D. was a supporter of the “Patriot Prayers” (a right-wing conservative group) and was part of a rally of Trump supporters that day in Portland.
Video recordings are circulating online that allegedly show Thursday’s police operation against R. and the futile attempts to resuscitate the 48-year-old. The Washington Post and the New York Times have confirmed R’s death, citing a Justice Department source.
On the Internet, the case provoked violent mutual accusations of both political situations. According to US media reports, Antifa groups speak of R. having been “executed” and exhorted his followers to attack the police. That night there were the first small demonstrations and commemorative events in Portland. Right-wing groups, on the other hand, suspect a conspiracy.
Don’t see blacks die
Shortly before that, in an interview with “Vice” magazine, R. admitted that D. had been fatally shot. But these were done in self defense. Literally, R said, “You know, the lawyers say I shouldn’t say anything. But I think it is important that the world understand at least a little of what is really happening. I had no choice. I mean, I had a choice. I could have sat there and watched them kill one of my colored friends. But I didn’t want that. “
According to his own statements, R. was a butler at the “Black Lives Matters” protests in Portland. On his Instagram account he had already declared in June that he was “100 percent Antifa.” R. apparently had a criminal record and was in possession of weapons. He then took it with him when he left by car, possibly due to the issuance of an arrest warrant against him.
Federal FBI agents located him in Lacey on Thursday. R. did not survive the armed confrontation with them.
Eyewitnesses reported in the US media that R. got out of his car and shot the officers who were pursuing him with a weapon, allegedly an assault rifle. Witnesses claim to have heard up to 40 shots. Four officers responded to the fire, R. died instantly from gunshot wounds. The prosecutor is now investigating the exact circumstances of the police operation.
