Turkey defends itself against accusations of espionage made by Interior Minister Karl Nehammer and identifies an “anti-Turkey obsession” in Vienna.
The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has ruled on the cause of the alleged espionage case. Ankara rejects the “baseless allegations,” spokesman Hami Aksoy said, according to the Reuters news agency on Tuesday.

Vienna is in no condition to “escape populist rhetoric and its anti-Turkey obsession.” She added: “We urge the Austrian government to stop chasing the artificial agenda with flat and internal political calculations on Turkey and to act with state seriousness, common sense and sincere cooperation.”
On Tuesday, Interior Minister Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) announced that a person had confessed to spying on behalf of the Turkish secret service in Austria. An accusation is imminent. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Vienna requested an interview with the Turkish ambassador.
