Börse Express – End of Vienna Stocks: Directionless Day Ends in Positive Territory

On Tuesday, the Vienna Stock Exchange closed a directionless trading day slightly in positive territory. Austria’s leading ATX index it increased 0.11 percent to 2,219.48 points. The European stock market environment was incoherent. Economic data released in the morning did not provide any support. It was learned that consumer prices in the eurozone fell for the first time since 2016 in August. Furthermore, euro zone industry confidence data showed the expected slight deterioration. In the US, by contrast, industrial sentiment improved more than expected in August.

On the corporate side, Zumtobel Trade figures. In the first quarter of fiscal 2020/21, sales of the Vorarlberg lighting group fell 15.4 percent to 250.8 million euros as a result of the Corona crisis. The result for the period collapsed by more than 71 percent to 3.1 million euros, but remained positive. Initially, the shares fell more than 1 percent at the opening of trading, but ended up being among the biggest price winners with a 1.25 percent advantage.

With AT&S (plus 2.34 percent), FACC (plus 2.27 percent) and Mayr-Melnhof (plus 2.09 percent) three titles won more than two percent. Wienerberger was among the heavyweights
most in demand and exited 1.68 percent more firmly.

Strabag shares were able to recover somewhat from the previous day’s losses with a 0.78 percent price increase. Earlier in the week, the title of the construction company had come under pressure after the presentation of business figures for the first half of the year and had lost 1.71 percent.

On Tuesday, Agrana was now very weak and lost 3.04 percent. Regarding the forthcoming exit of the Agrana Leopoldsdorf sugar factory, Agriculture Minister Elisabeth Köstinger (ÖVP) expects “more commitment” from the group. “In recent years, Agrana has invested very little”, criticizes the politician to the fruit, sugar and starch company in the specialized magazine “Blick ins Land”. / Dkm / pma / APA / jha
