Israeli center forward Shon Weissman’s Austria intermezzo lasted a year. Now the top scorer in the Bundesliga moves to Spain.
“My special thanks to you, the fans, who have always supported me both in the stadium and here online! THANKS also to my teammates and staff. Now I am taking the next step in my career and I hope to see you again soon “Shon Weissman announced on Twitter. The WAC had recently officially announced their departure without mentioning where the trip was headed.
Record purchase for Real Valladolid, record sale for WAC
As sparrows whistle from the rooftops, the 24-year-old Israeli finds himself drawn to La Liga’s Real Valladolid, where Brazilian soccer legend Ronaldo is president. Both of them Pucelanos Weissman signs a four-year contract and becomes the record signing of the thirteenth last year. The white violets pay four million euros to Wolfsberger AC, which of course is also the record transfer for the Lavanttaler. In the Spanish media there is even talk of “three or four million”. So far, the Serbian Dragan Isailovic was the most expensive purchase of Valladolid with 3.3 million euros; the striker arrived from Partizan Belgrade in 1998.
Transfer fee below expectations
In the end, the transfer fee was a bit surprising, as six instead of four million were discussed. The ardently courted Weissman was also in conversation with Schalke, Galatasaray and Celtic Glasgow. It has not been disclosed yet whether the WAC can expect a transfer fee increase based on bonuses. It was learned, however, that Real Valladolid – as is usual in Spain – had a written exit clause in Weissman’s contract, which should be between 25 and 35 million euros.
From transfer fee to team player
Weissman moved from Maccabi Haifa to Carinthia on a free transfer a year ago and thus it has clearly paid off for Wolfsberger AC. The attacker, who made his debut for the Israeli team last September and has played four missions so far, would have had a remaining contract with the WAC for one year.
Joveljic already fixed – Vizinger coming too?
Wolfsberg has already signed a new striker on loan from Frankfurt, Dejan Joveljic. But it shouldn’t stay that way: At the top of the list is Slovenian striker Dario Vizinger, who was the second best scorer in the Prva Liga last season with 23 goals and surprisingly scored the championship title.
Celje’s Russian owners are negotiating a higher transfer fee
However, the transfer, which was originally well advanced, seemed to wobble a bit. The new Russian owners of the club want to stay with Vizinger. Presumably, Celje is speculating on a strong upcoming season and a big deal that probably wouldn’t be feasible with the WAC. However, there are also contradictions in the current reports: from another side you can also hear that Vizinger is about to sign and that it is just the transfer fee. Celje wants 1.2 million euros, the WAC is currently willing to pay one million.
Celje without planning security
The help for WAC came from Norway: Molde FK defeated Celje 2-1 in the second round of the Champions League qualifying away from home and put an end to the dreams of the Slovenians in the first division, who pass like this to the Europa League qualification. Celje would now have to defeat two rivals to enter the European group stage. The Slovenians will experience their first rival today at noon.
