FK Austria Wien won a 5-0 victory over SC Retz in the 1st round of the UNIQA ÖFB Cup. The Lower Austrian national division held zero until 44 minutes before Maximilian Sax broke the door. In the second half, the class difference was even more evident: Monschein (48th), Pichler (76th), Edomwonyi (88th) and Sarkaria (90th) made the 5-0 victory perfect.

Austria fights long before Sax redeems violets shortly before halftime

The underdog from the Lower Austrian regional league acted very skillfully from the start, condensing the center and making it extremely difficult for Austria. Consequently, the Bundesliga team tried to get dangerous through the pages. A strong chip from Sarkaria on the Retz defensive chain landed on Max Sax, who failed with his direct acceptance to Retz goalkeeper Bacher (7th). Five minutes later it was Sax again who fired a deflected shot from the goal (12th). A little later, Bacher scratched a worn Sarkaria free throw from the line (17th).

Similar to LASK yesterday, Vienna Austria also struggled to find solutions to shame the homeless. Weinviertel residents continued to defend themselves bravely and barely allowed anything. Patrick Wimmer broke through in the 39th minute, but Retz Bacher’s keeper was there and was able to defuse the shot from close range. Shortly before the break, the national division had to accept the goal: Wimmer led the leather down, where Sax deliberately pushed into the far corner: 1-0 (44th).

Violets leave nothing to be desired in the second half.

Immediately after the restart, Monschein rose to 2-0 for Austria after a good lift from Sarkaria. The striker prevailed in the career duel against Retz defender Daniel Murtinger and put the ball into the far corner (48). After just over an hour, Monschein had a chance to double, but the Neo-ÖFB team forward fired wide.

Austria controlled the game later and had very little trouble with the national division. Retz goalkeeper Bacher was once again able to excel in the 70th minute against Monschein. While Kirschner missed Retz’s biggest chance of the game in the 74th minute (header over goal), substitute Pichler rose to 3-0 just two minutes later. The Salzburg native pushed Sarkaria’s cross pass over the line (76th). Also traded Bright Edomwonyi made it 4-0 shortly before the end, before Manprit Sarkaria capped off his great performance with a wonderful free throw – 5-0 (90th).
