Dramatic storm in Burgenland: tree falls by minibus

Four other people were taken to Oberwart Hospital with injuries.

Neudauberg. During a violent storm on Saturday afternoon in the Burgauberg-Neudauberg municipality (Güssing district) in southern Burgenland, a tree fell on a minibus. According to the Burgenland Center for State Security (LSZ), three inmates died. Four other people who were in the vehicle were admitted to Oberwart Hospital with injuries.

Three ambulances and four ambulances were being used. Members of the fire department were also there. Additional information on the course of the accident and details of the identities of those involved were not initially available on Saturday night. The Burgenland State Police Department did not comment on the incident, even referring to the fact that relatives had not yet been informed.

At the time of the crash around 5pm, southern Burgenland was considered a storm hot spot. As announced by the fire brigade alarm center (FAZ) at the request of the APA, trees were also uprooted on the edge of several other streets. Also, the helpers were busy pumping out the houses and associated basements.

The storm forecast

During the night it continues to rain in the west and southwest and especially in Upper Carinthia with embedded thunderstorms. In the north there are some fields of dense clouds with rain showers, sometimes thunderstorms are possible. It remains dry at night only in the extreme east and southeast, here residual clouds quickly loosen. In the mountains there is strong to strong south wind, otherwise it is quite weak. Lower temperatures of 10 to 19 degrees.

So far there have only been three weather-related missions in Tyrol. In Gschnitz (Innsbruck-Land district) there was a small landslide, which did not affect any infrastructure, according to the APA’s Tyrolean control center.

A similar image emerged in Vorarlberg. “So far we have been saved throughout the country,” the fire and rescue corps control center said. There had been no landslides or the like yet.

Vienna: At night, some dense clouds sometimes move over the city. But it generally stays dry. The wind only blows weakly from the southeast. Low temperatures around 18 degrees.

Lower Austria: During the night, cloud fields move across the sky from time to time and especially in Waldviertel and Mostviertel, some showers and sometimes thunderstorms can be expected until midnight. Further east it often remains dry, here it clears up again in the course of the second half of the night. Usually the wind only blows weakly, only in the mountains a moderate wind blows from the south. Lower temperatures of 14 to 19 degrees.

Burgenland: The night is dry and the residual clouds are shed more and more frequently. The wind blows weak to moderate from southeast to southwest. Lower temperatures of 17 to 20 degrees.

Upper Austria: On Sunday night, it can rain every now and then everywhere, alternating between clouds and thick clouds, and it can also go through heavy downpours in some places. Lower values: 12 to 16 degrees.

Salzburg: Sunday night brings heavy rains on the Lungau and directly at the ends of the Tauern valley, and thunderstorms are also possible. To the north it rains less and with breaks. Lower temperatures: 11 to 15 degrees.

Steiermark: In the afternoon and in the evening, there are sometimes heavy rains and thunderstorms in western Upper Styria. To the east and southeast, the local rains decrease in the afternoon and the night is mostly dry and cloudy. Lower temperatures of 13 to 17 degrees.

Carinthia: On Sunday night it rains a lot in Upper Carinthia, with very heavy downpours and accumulated thunderstorms at times. This means that small-scale flooding is possible here. Single storm showers are also possible in Lower Carinthia, but dry weather is likely to predominate here overnight. The lows are between 13 and 17 degrees.

Tirol: First of all, it often rains from compact clouds in North Tyrol. In the early hours, the south wind revives over the mountains, causing longer breaks in rainfall and some loosening in the lowlands. In eastern Tyrol, torrential rains last until the first half of the night before weakening and becoming less frequent. Lower values: 9 to 12 degrees.

Vorarlberg: During the night it continues to rain moderate to heavy for a long time. Lower values: 8 to 11 degrees.
