In the municipality of Burgauberg-Neudauberg (Bez Güssing) in southern Burgenland, a tree fell on a minibus on Saturday afternoon. According to the Burgenland Center for State Security (LSZ), three inmates died. Four other people were taken to Oberwart Hospital with injuries. Three ambulances, as well as four ambulances and members of the fire department were in action.

The trigger for the fall of a tree in the minibus was likely a violent storm that was occurring in the area on Saturday afternoon. According to the fire brigade alarm center (FAZ), southern Burgenland was a hotspot, and trees were also uprooted at the edge of several other streets.

As reported by the Landessicherheitszentrale (LSZ) Burgenland, both the three people killed in the incident and the four injured were together in a minibus. The vehicle is homologated for nine occupants.
