In Malmö, Sweden, several hundred people protested against anti-Islamic discrimination. There was violence and riots.
The protest started on Friday night in the Swedish city of Malmö. According to the Reuters news agency, at least 300 people gathered to protest against anti-Islamic discrimination. Malmö is located in the extreme south of Sweden, on the border with Denmark. It is the third largest city in Sweden.
The protest resulted in violent clashes with the police. Protesters threw objects at policemen and set car tires on fire. “We are not in control of the situation, but we are working on it,” said a Malmo police spokesman.
Entry denied
A far-right group had previously burned a Koran in Malmö. According to a Swedish newspaper, there were several anti-Islamic demonstrations after Rasmus Paludan, a right-wing Danish politician, was denied entry.
“We see a connection between the burning of the Koran and the protests,” Malmö police confirmed. The protests took place in the same place where the Quran had previously been burned.
