The Freedom Party wants to prevent Strache and company from catching up with a strong election campaign against Islamism.
The FPÖ has tried a lot in recent Viennese election campaigns: sunscreen against “blush”, rap songs and comics. Thanks to a night in Ibiza, the party has lost its local hero. Instead of Heinz-Christian Strache, who has experience in the election campaign, Dominik Nepp is now the face of the “Vienna Party”, as the FPÖ calls itself in the capital.
Marble gugelhupf – with your fingers
On Friday, Nepp unveiled the first two posters together with election campaign manager Harald Vilimsky. There the FPÖ tried something new: on the left a horror scenario, (of course) on the right the ideal world. In the first picture you can see: the Turkish nationalists demonstrating together with Deputy Mayor Birgit Hebein (Greens), who is mounted inside. Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) looms over the demonstration. It shows “his Vienna”, according to the FPÖ. Right: Dominik Nepp, enjoying a marble jug with his family. Little crown misstep: When distributing, Nepp touches the piece of cake with his fingers.
“Home Sweet Home”
Sutil is something for the bigheads, as the second poster shows. On the left, women in burqa stand in front of a cartoon of a terrorist, next to it it says “Home sweet home.” A window is open next to it, where you can see the Cathedral of Saint Stephen wrapped in a crescent moon. On the right again the world like the dream of the blues: Dominik Nepp shows a blonde girl the Cathedral of Saint Stephen. That at least is hinted at: the image actually shows St. Stephen’s Cathedral behind Nepp and Mäderl.
The main thing before Strache
Vilimsky has declared the party for second place as a target of the election campaign. Currently the party is far from that. It’s about eleven percent, the Greens, only third, at 16 percent. The current second, ÖVP Vienna, is ten percent short. The most important thing for the FPÖ should be a performance against the former boss. His Strache team is currently four to five percent. It will be exciting to see how the new match will react to the FPÖ’s specifications.
