Innsbruck – After previously unknown perpetrators torched five cars in Innsbruck on Tuesday and Wednesday, a fire broke out in the vehicle again around 3 a.m. on Friday. Based on previous fire investigations, this fire may also have started. According to a transmission, the police assume a connection to the fires of other vehicles. According to the victims, the damage is likely to be in the upper four-digit euro range. Extensive investigations are ongoing.

It was an old small Mercedes car on Tuesday night and a Skoda on Thursday night: Arsonists burned down two cars in Innsbruck in 30 hours. The attack on Archenweg sparked a chain reaction: three other cars caught fire. The brand evokes memories of the series of car brands five years ago in a red light environment. “But there is no evidence of a connection,” says Christoph Kirchmair, head of Kripo from Innsbruck. At the moment, the recent attacks in Wilten and Rossau do not appear to have a common denominator.

The scene of the first arson was an inner courtyard on the Noldinstrasse. Around 11 p.m. Tuesday, a 20-year-old Mercedes A-class without license plate caught fire in the front area. As research showed, the front tire caught fire with a lighter grille. The perpetrators were able to escape undetected. The owner of the car is a local.

On Thursday night around 4:45 a Skoda van caught fire in a parking lot at Archenweg 50. “We also have to take on arson,” says Kirchmair. The flames spread to three other cars that were parked next to the truck. A German’s Audi and Skoda are only worth scrap metal, two other local vehicles were badly damaged. The owner of the Skoda is a Slovakian, who could not be interviewed at the moment. The culprit is also unknown. Kripo now awaits evidence from witnesses.

Kirchmair does not believe the attacks are a continuation of the 2015 brand series. Back then, at least nine cars caught fire in a few months. Most of the victims were linked to the illegal red light environment. Before the series could clear up, it was suddenly interrupted. “Because the police greatly increased the pressure on the environment,” recalls Kirchmair. An offensive that has now led to the dissolution of the street line. (TT.com)
