During a search of houses in the Czech Republic, authorities found around 280,000 dead beetles, as a police spokeswoman in Hradec Králové (Königgrätz) said. This should now have legal consequences for the collector.

According to experts, there are more than 600 endangered or endangered species among beetles. The 61-year-old man was found after offering multiple copies online. During their searches, the researchers discovered two specimens of the South American giant beetle Dynastes satanas.

According to the researchers, the hobby beetle specialist had justified himself for not collecting the animals in his own interest. The 61-year-old man said he wanted to document all species that live in a specific location, if possible. He also inherited part of the collection. If convicted of violating the species protection law, the man now faces up to three years in prison.
