Great news from Formula 1!
Sebastian Vettel (32) will not renew his contract with Ferrari! What BILD initially reported has now been officially confirmed. The four-time world champion has been driving for Scuderia since 2015 and his contract expires at the end of the year. Heppenheimer and the Italian racing team could not agree on an extension.
Vettel in a press release: “The team and I noted that there was no longer a common desire to stay together by the end of this season.”
The full explanation in the newsroom:
Vettel: “My relationship with Scuderia Ferrari will end at the end of 2020. In order to achieve the best possible results in this sport, it is important that everyone involved works in perfect harmony. The team and I noted that there was no longer a common desire to stay together by the end of this season. Financial reasons played no role in this joint decision. I don’t think so when it comes to making certain decisions, and it never will be. “
Plus: “What happened in the past few months has made many of us think about our real priorities in life. You must use your imagination and take a new approach to a situation that has changed. I’ll take the time myself to think about what’s really important to my future. “
In conclusion, Vettel adds: “The Scuderia Ferrari has a special place in Formula 1 and I hope it has the success it deserves. Finally, I would like to thank the entire Ferrari family and especially the Tifosi from around the world for the support they have given me over the years. My immediate goal is to end my time at Ferrari so that we can share some pleasant moments with each other and add to those that we have enjoyed so far. ”
Vettel-Aus at Ferrari!
Vettel finished the 2019 season alone in a disappointing fifth place at the World Cup, still behind his new teammate Charles Leclerc (22). There were always problems with the Monegasque on the track, in Brazil the two Ferrari drivers even shot each other out of the race.

However, at the beginning of the year there was still a lot of evidence of an extension. Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto (50) repeatedly emphasized that Vettel was “the first choice” for Ferrari. Vettel himself said in an interview with SPORT BILD’s special number on motorsports: “The passion for Ferrari is there, the brand is something very special, for me it is the attraction to win here.”
Now he threatens to lose this target. In 2015 Vettel switched from Red Bull to Ferrari with high expectations, as Michael Schumacher (five 2000-2004 titles with Ferrari) should rebuild the weakened Scuderia. In fact, Ferrari took a step forward thanks to Vettel, Heppenheimer had 14 wins in red in 101 races.
But it was not enough for great success. In 2020 Lewis Hamilton (35) remains the big favorite title at Mercedes. Formula 1 is due to the Corona virus until early July.
