It is only about 3 centimeters long, but lives up to its name: the “Blue Dragon”. The snail species is very rare, a specimen was discovered in the Gulf of Mexico.
“Glaucus atlanticus” is the name of the snail species among experts, but it is not without reason that it bears the nickname “Blue Dragon”. A natural park on the US coast of the Gulf of Mexico posted photos of this strange marine animal on Facebook. A seven-year-old boy saw the animal on a Texas beach.
The snail can float in the water and feed on cnidarians. The small animal collects its toxins in its pointy “fingers”. Touching it is therefore extremely painful. The “Blue Dragon” does not spit fire, but can still cause burning.
“So if you come across a kite in the park, be amazed because they rarely meet, but keep your distance!” The coastal natural park warns in a Facebook post.
