Zams: The rules of the Crown were not a problem, there was no communion and they did not shake hands when greeting peace. “I ask you to honk your horn to show peace,” Pastor Zammer Herbert Traxl said yesterday at the first ecumenical drive-in service in Tyrol, in which around 100 drivers parked at the Venetbahn Valley Station. The horns blew vigorously several times. Hardly anyone was sitting alone in the car, you could even see minibuses with up to seven people; a total of 300 to 400 participants should have seen the premiere.

Traxl had celebrated the unusual word service with his evangelical colleague Richard Rotter and with deacon Johannes Schwemberger. The organizing effort was certainly great, as the pastors admitted. The fire service provided folder services, sound engineer Wolfgang Maass contributed complex equipment. A ensemble with keyboardist Reinhard Mathoy and guitarist Felix Juen provided modern musical accompaniment, including Taizé’s spiritual song “Laudate omnes gentes”.

Only positive reactions were heard from visitors who not only came from the basin. “Great idea. Organizers can only be congratulated for doing something like this in the difficult Crown period,” said an Innsbruck-Land family. “Brave and creative, a pleasant event,” said former district farmer Anni Winkler. The words of praise also came from Mayor Siggi Geiger. “I have consulted the lodge. The approval was pleasantly simple.”
Pastor Traxl does not rule out whether he would like to organize another drive-in service after the successful premiere. “It was definitely an experiment. We are very pleased with the overall positive response. And it is confirmation that there are other ways to proclaim the faith.” (hwe)
