The Vice President of the Romanian Red Cross wanted to demonstrate that the measures are superfluous and also participated in criminal proceedings with this silly act.
Viorel Catarama, vice president of the Romanian Red Cross, a former politician and furniture maker, has tried to become infected with the new corona virus. He wanted to demonstrate that the crown precautionary measures that were also applicable in his country were superfluous. He was involved in criminal proceedings, the Romanian media reported on Saturday.
Catarama hugged a man suffering from Covid-19 in the town of Barbulesti and therefore violated the law to prevent the spread of epidemics, the prosecutor in the city of Urziceni said.
“I am firmly convinced that nothing will happen to me,” Catarama, 65, posted on Facebook. He could demonstrate “that it was a great mistake to bankrupt Romania (with the crown blockade) and to suppress our fundamental rights and freedoms. Sooner or later, the guilty party will have to answer for that.”
The Romanian Red Cross condemned Catarama’s position. His wife also kept her distance. “Our paths separate for a time,” wrote Adina Albers, Catarama’s wife and a prominent doctor in Romania on Facebook. As a doctor and mother, she couldn’t approve of her “risky experiment.” So far, 926 people have died in Romania after being infected with the Sars-CoV-2 virus. By Saturday, 15,131 people had been infected in the country with a population of around 18 million.
