Health Department Warns: Does the United States Lead 3,000 Dead Every Day?

Amid tightening of crown restrictions in the United States, key authorities in the country are warning of a drastic worsening of the pandemic. According to media reports, the US health agency CDC estimates in an internal projection that the number of new daily infections could rise eightfold to 200,000 in early June.

The number of deaths recorded every day could increase significantly to approximately 3,000, as New York Times and Washington Post reported Monday. The United States is already the country with the most confirmed coronavirus infections and deaths worldwide, by a wide margin. To date, there have been 1.18 million infections and almost 69,000 deaths in the United States. New CDC numbers mean the number of daily deaths could double in the coming weeks.

The White House tried to put into perspective the relevance of the CDC’s forecast. It was an “internal” document that was not coordinated with other authorities and was not presented to the crisis team. United States President Donald Trump admitted Sunday that up to 100,000 people in the United States could be victims of the pandemic. Trump recently predicted a death toll of around 60,000.

The CDC health agency bases its bleak outlook on the fact that some states and districts have either failed to act vehemently against the spread of the virus or are proceeding too fast to loosen restrictions.
