Strong accusations by Washington against China!
United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has again attacked Beijing in the debate over the origin of the coronavirus pandemic.
► There is “overwhelming evidence” that the new pathogen comes from a laboratory in the Chinese city of Wuhan, Pompeo said “ABC” on Sunday. The former CIA director did not comment on the allegation that the virus had been released on purpose.
Viruses from Chinese laboratories have put the world at risk in the past, Pompeo said. China is known for “infecting the world and running inferior laboratories.”
The United States Secretary of State accused Beijing of a “communist disinformation campaign” regarding the Corona crisis. China also continues to block the participation of Western experts in coronavirus research.
For months, however, it was speculated that the virus may have been released by accident at the Wuhan Virology Institute or even purposely created. The President of the United States, Donald Trump, had caused speculation about it.
According to his own statements, Trump also has indications that the pandemic could have originated from that research laboratory in Wuhan. When asked by a reporter if he had information about it that would give him a high degree of certainty, Trump said twice at the White House on Thursday: “Yes, I do.”
Chinese authorities firmly reject such theories.
Intelligence document accuses China of covering up
The Chinese government has also been severely criticized for dealing with the epidemic in a Western intelligence document. The dossier of the alliance of the intelligence agency “Five Eyes” of the United States, Great Britain, Australia, Canada and New Zealand summarizes the accusations and suspicions, reports the Australian newspaper “The Daily Telegraph”.
Accordingly, the file documents the cover-up by the Chinese authorities and indicates a risky investigation in a laboratory in the Chinese city of Wuhan, where the new corona virus first appeared in December.
The 15-page “Five Eyes” document demonstrates the momentum of ongoing investigations by the intelligence services. However, according to the newspaper, he also mentions their differences regarding the suspicion that the virus could actually have come from the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
He particularly complains that China denied until January 20 that the virus was transmitted from person to person. There have been signs of this since early December, according to the newspaper. China is also accused of destroying virus samples and tightly monitoring scientific publications on the virus. Chinese authorities have also refused to make live samples available to international researchers.
Pompeo also accused Chinese leaders of trying to cover them up and confuse them, causing great harm. When asked about the possible consequences for Beijing, he said: “We will hold those responsible accountable.” Meanwhile, other countries have also realized that China has caused the crisis.
