The 88-year-old from Kirchdorfer was driving his van at around 4.40pm on Waldneukirchner Landesstrae towards the center of Waldneukirchen. The 86-year-old, also from the Kirchdorf district, met him in his car. For a previously unknown cause, the 86-year-old man got into the opposite lane in Waldneukirchen municipality, according to eyewitnesses, and there was a head-on collision. The 86-year-old man was trapped in his car and had to be rescued by firefighters.

He was admitted to Steyr Hospital with undefined injuries. The 88-year-old man, whose car was thrown into a field, suffered such serious injuries that he died at the scene of the accident despite immediate resuscitation measures.
