When they entered the country, the three Czechs declared that they had collected 4,000 euros from a bank in Liechtenstein. In fact, they want to go to Zurich, but since they forgot a jacket in a hotel in Feldkirch, they would have to go to Austria. The story didn’t seem entirely credible to customs officials and they searched the family’s car. They noticed three aluminum suitcases. These were filled with silver. Agents also found gold bars in the daughter’s purse. In total, the family had 74 gold bars weighing more than three kilos and 707 silver bars weighing more than 660 kilos in their car.
Apart from the fact that the precious metal was not declared before entering the country, the Czechs would have had to pay 97,000 euros of import duties just for the silver. In addition to this import tax, the family will also face a hefty fine for smuggling.
