Sport Austria President Hans Niessl called on Saturday, as part of his # BeActive-Tour, not to disturb people interested in sports and sports clubs and to formulate regulations “clearly and unequivocally”. “Otherwise, unfortunately, everyone will soon know a club that is going to cease operations, just because they no longer know the way … We need sport to the fullest, from popular sports to health and professional sports, and more than ever” .
Niessl visited three #BeActive Night stations across Austria in Vienna and Burgenland, a theme on the European Sports Weeks program: “An excellent campaign aimed at encouraging people to exercise more. How important this is is shown by staggering figures: around 9% of annual deaths in Austria are due to lack of exercise. In 2019, around 7,800 people died in this country (Austrian Statistics, note) because they had not moved enough during their lifetime. We have to improve that and for that we have to maintain sports activities in all its forms, from children’s gymnastics to senior gymnastics during Corona. “
So far there is no cluster formation in the sports sector.
“Sport and exercise,” Niessl continued, “are of particular importance in times of pandemic because they strengthen the immune system and increase endurance. That is why we need each of our 15,000 sports clubs and each of our 576,000 volunteer officers. They must not be discouraged. It is thanks to them that there has not been any cluster in sport to date and therefore there are no reasons to restrict sporting activities, because they ensure that the concepts, hygiene measures, mask protection and Distance rules are enforced to an extremely high degree before, during and after sporting events. “
#BeActive Night at 27 locations in Austria
The European Commission also pays tribute to the importance of sport and exercise and has therefore organized the “European Week of Sport” (23-30 September) every year since 2015. The campaign coordinated by Sport Austria in Austria now moves people in 42 countries. One of the emblematic events, the #BeActive Night, took place today Saturday, complying with all Corona guidelines. Visitors were able to try around 55 sports and forms of exercise for free at 27 locations in Austria. www.beactive-austria.at
