In many areas there is still no possibility for a state like Vienna to impose its own measures, Sima said. The corresponding federal ordinance has not yet entered into force.
Therefore, the market regulation was examined and it was concluded that a mask requirement could be prescribed on the basis of it. In cases where visitors refuse to use the protection, penalties could be imposed, he said. Those who don’t understand face a fine of 50 euros. The agreement applies to both competitors and consumers.
According to Sima, the market office has also created more space between the farmers market stalls and increased staff. In some markets, open spaces were used to expand the area. Carinthia is currently at the bottom of the list with 415 reported tests. Salzburg achieved 492, 563 were recorded in Burgenland and 760 in Vorarlberg.
