There are 366 new infections in Vienna. There is again a mask requirement in the markets starting on Saturday.
In Austria, 780 new SARS-CoV-2 infections have been recorded in the last 24 hours. The number of active patients was 7,051 on Thursday, significantly higher than on Wednesday (6,600). However, the situation in the hospital sector remains stable. 319 people were hospitalized Thursday for the coronavirus, two fewer than the day before. 55 had to be treated in intensive care units, one more than on Wednesday.
With 366 new infections, Vienna, unsurprisingly with 1.9 million inhabitants, was once again at the top in the ranking of federal states. That is why the city is now drawing conclusions. Oral and nasal protection is mandatory in Viennese markets from Saturday. The Environment Councilor Ulli Sima (SPÖ) announced on Thursday. It appears that Vienna is considering new measures. In many areas there is still no possibility for a state like Vienna to impose its own measures, Sima said. The corresponding federal ordinance has not yet entered into force.
Therefore, the market regulation was examined and it was concluded that a mask requirement could be prescribed on the basis of it. In cases where visitors refuse to use the protection, penalties could be imposed, he said. Those who don’t understand face a fine of 50 euros. The agreement applies to both competitors and consumers.
According to Sima, the market office has also created more space between the farmers market stalls and increased staff. In some markets, open spaces were used to expand the area. Visitors are constantly informed of the distance rules with megaphones. The marks on the ground should also remember this. The markets of Vienna had already taken similar measures in the spring.
