Urgent request of the ÖVP to the mayor
Vienna (OTS / RK) – GR Wolfgang Seidl (FPÖ) was “surprised” by the urgent request of the ÖVP. In response to GRin Korosec and the “economic depression”, he said that it was the federal government and not the city of Vienna that “closed Austria”. The federal government is in no condition to dominate the pandemic. Of course, the city of Vienna didn’t do everything perfectly either. He considers the timing of MA15 replacement to be unfavorable, but Dr. Haidvogel has always performed his previous duties well. Rather, a problem is that the MA15 sometimes sent notices too late. The city of Vienna has to “address this urgently.” He wonders why the cooperation between religious hospitals, private institutions and municipal hospitals that existed in the first wave would not continue in the second wave. In any case, the city government is called to “get moving quickly in this regard,” Seidl concluded.
GR Peter Florianschütz, MA, MLS (SPÖ) said that the ÖVP had requested the urgent request solely for electoral reasons. It’s no wonder that Vienna, by far the largest city in Austria, has the most cases. As a region, Vienna ranks ninth in Austria in the pandemic growth rate. The staff at service number 1450 has increased tremendously and “there are more” every week. Test capabilities have also been expanded with the new test route on the Danube Island. The accusation that Vienna refuses to help the police with contact tracing makes no sense. Other cities would also do this without the help of the police and, like Vienna, it worked well there without the police. In the leadership of the Vienna ÖVP, Florianschütz criticized that of the 17 applications submitted, only one was relevant to the fight against the crown. Apparently, the ÖVP has no interest in solutions to the crisis, it just wants to speak ill of the city of Vienna.
GR Dipl.-Ing. Dr. Stefan Gara (NEOS) called for taking the “virus seriously”. The federal government is spreading fear in relation to the virus. But it is about removing fear from people and giving them security. Gara expects the same from Vienna. They dominated the first wave well. But now there is room for improvement. The response time of the number 1450 is too long. As early as March, he called for the reporting processes to be digitized to speed up the process. This would ensure better planning for those affected. Vienna doesn’t need a police force to track contacts either. It would have been important to increase and train staff in advance over the summer to be well positioned now. Gara wondered why that didn’t happen. In July he made the suggestion to conduct epidemiological tests in schools. The gargle tests are a good measure, but the implementation was too slow. “You keep chasing the virus,” Gara said. It is crucial for the economy to remove Vienna from the “red list” of travel advisories and test results should be available sooner.
GRin Mag. Caroline Hungerländer (ÖVP) said that city government failures have now spilled into the infection figures. Despite all the warnings, the city did not prepare. Refusing the police offer was a mistake. Necessary personnel were not increased on time, capacities were not expanded enough. The district figures would also have been important in terms of transparency. The “sleepwalking” city government is responsible for travel advisories. They demand test results and contact tracing within 24 hours, an intensified review of quarantine measures, transparency in district numbers and the automatic opening of subway doors. Mayor Ludwig should take over crisis management and make sure Vienna is removed from the travel advisory list as soon as possible.
GR Dr. Günter Koderhold (FPÖ) responded that it was not corona infections, as previous speakers had stated, but HIV and cholera infections that would cause the highest death toll. The federal government failed to fight the pandemic. It would have been important to have a continually updated pandemic emergency plan, which Pamela Rendi-Wagner (SPÖ) overlooked when it came under his responsibility. Austria, and that would be the responsibility of the ÖVP, had not prepared in advance an economic pandemic plan, as other countries had put it into practice. What had been neglected in these areas, the government would now make up for with other measures such as the days of respiratory masks. The specifications of the skins should be more precise. “If there is a mask ritual, then it must be adequate and to minimum standards,” says Koderhold. To ÖVP’s criticism of the tests, he replied that the comparison with Hamburg was unfair, as one of the largest tropical institutes in Europe was located there. The quality of the evidence is important. As for the quarantine control, he said that a medical control of those affected would be desirable, a pure control, and also considered that the police is “an absurdity”.
