On Thursday, the Dornbirn district was the most affected district in relation to the number of inhabitants in terms of new Covid infections. And today? The situation has eased a bit. The Vorarlberg district with the cities of Dornbirn, Lustenau and Hohenems has given up the number one position in the 7-day incidence in Austria. According to the latest data from the Ministry of Health, Dornbirn is no longer the access point of the Austrian crown.

The seven-day incidence decreased from 122 to 113.

The most affected district in all of Austria is Krems an der Donau (124) before Vienna (118). Dornbirn remains in third place in Austria.

The seven-day incidence provides information on how many new infections there have been per 100,000 inhabitants in the last seven days.

And the other districts of Ländle?

Bludenz is out of the top 10. The seven-day incidence for the district is 71, after the previous 70. Feldkirch is also ranked a few places behind with a value of 56 and Bregenz is 50.

The districts of Austria with the highest incidence in 7 days

In the last 24 hours, 808 new SARS-CoV-2 infections have been reported in Austria. The number of active cases is clearly increasing: at 7,447, this value has increased by 1,253 in three days. So far there have been 36,661 positive results in Austria. As of today (September 18, 2020, 9:30 am), 763 people in Austria have died from the consequences of the corona virus and 28,451 have recovered. Currently, 334 people are in hospital treatment due to the coronavirus and 62 of them are in intensive care units.

The 808 new infections since the last report (Thursday: 9.30am) are divided among the federal states of Austria as follows:

Anschober emphasizes: “We are at a fork in the road”

Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (Greens) noted with concern: “We are now at a fork in the road. Either we manage to keep development stable by consistently implementing the new measures or there is a threat of a shift to exponential development by the end of September”.

At the same time, Anschober was confident in a press release that the latter can be avoided, “because the population seems to be shaking now after the waking of the traffic lights and the evolution of the numbers.”

Three new deaths in Vienna

In Vienna, three people died in 24 hours in connection with the coronavirus. According to a transmission from the Vienna State Medical Directorate and the city’s medical crisis team, it was an 83-year-old woman and two men aged 57 and 81 who had previous illnesses.
