About two-thirds of the 940,000 Viennese food vouchers sent have been redeemed at participating Viennese restaurants and cafes since June.
To date, more than 611,000 Viennese food vouchers have been exchanged. This corresponds to around two-thirds of the food vouchers sent to 940,000 Viennese households in June.
A total of 23 million euros have entered the coffers of the around 3,700 participating Viennese restaurants and cafes, the office of Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) said on Sunday.
So far 611,000 Viennese food vouchers redeemed
Ludwig and the head of the Vienna Chamber of Commerce, Walter Ruck (ÖVP), spoke of an important and non-bureaucratic help for Viennese gastronomy. “The numbers speak for themselves,” Ludwig said of “direct help in the crown crisis, which is boosting business.”
The annual added value of Viennese gastronomy is (normally) around 1,430 million euros. Viennese food vouchers were issued by the Vienna City Council together with the Vienna Chamber of Commerce for a value of 50 euros for multi-person households and 25 euros for single-person households. The Vienna City Council approved funds of up to € 39 million and the execution was entrusted to Wien Holding GmbH.
19,000 food vouchers had to be reissued
Almost two percent or 19,000 of the coupons had to be reissued. The reasons for this varied: coupons could not be delivered correctly, were lost after receipt, the coupon code was no longer readable (dirty, inadvertently broken, etc.) or reported stolen. Almost 4,000 coupons had already been redeemed at the time of the new application.
On the website www.wienergastrogutschein.at, all Viennese citizens can find out in which shops they can redeem their food vouchers until the end of September 2020.
