A 60-year-old man from the Wels-Land district was struck by a falling tree in his forest in Offenhausen and fatally injured while felling a 12-inch-thick fir tree. The man hit the conifer around 10:45 a.m. but did not fall in the planned direction, instead hitting it himself, police reported Saturday afternoon. The 60-year-old man’s brother, who worked nearby, and another worker immediately provided first aid to the victim. The alarmed ER doctor could only determine the man’s death.
