ÖVP policy on the refugee issue can be based on a majority of the population.
Vienna The second Corona wave has brought movement to the Austrian parties. This is demonstrated by the current AUSTRIA survey (Research Affairs, 1,000 respondents from September 14 to 16, fluctuation range maximum 3.2%), published in the Sunday edition of the daily ÖSTERREICH.
While the Greens stumble, the current crown situation cannot affect the Chancellor Party. If there were new elections this Sunday, the ÖVP with Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz would remain undisputed at the top with 42%. The Greens continue their descent. Only 12% (minus 1% compared to the previous week) would vote for the smaller ruling party, so Health Minister Rudi Anschober’s party is on par with the FPÖ, which will likely have stabilized afterwards of his fall.
The SPÖ remains stagnant at 19%, which would remain the worst electoral result historically. There is a slight 1 percentage point lead for the Neos, who are currently 9%. Strache’s team shows up in the survey with 5%.
On the chancellor’s question (who would he vote for if he were allowed to vote directly for the chancellor?), Sebastian Kurz confidently stands at the top (minus 1% compared to the previous week). Behind them are Pamela Rendi-Wagner (19%), Norbert Hofer (13%) and Werner Kogler with just 9%.
The government’s overall approval is slipping slightly and has fallen below the 60 percent mark for the first time since the beginning of the year. 58% are satisfied with the government (14% very, 44% more likely), that is, less than three percentage points compared to the previous week.
ÖVP policy on the issue of refugees can be based on a majority of the population. 60% are against hosting refugee children from Moria, 40% are in favor. Only among young people from 16 to 19 years old this humanitarian action would find a clear majority with 64:36 percent.
