Rapid Wien celebrated a clear 3-0 home win against LASK in the Bundesliga and are Salzburg’s first hunter, two points behind.
Just three days after the 4-1 gala at Sporting Lisbon, LASK had no chance at Hütteldorf and suffered its first defeat in the seventh game of the season – 3-0 at Rapid. At the goal of the injured ÖFB team goalkeeper Alexander Schlager was 20-year-old Bundesliga rookie Tobias Lawal. He was under constant fire from the beginning: Rapid showed the best performance of the season and a lot of attraction towards goal. Dejan Ljubicic and company caught balls and then headed straight for LASK’s goal.
In the sixth minute Taxi Fountas, ideally cleared by Ercan Kara, failed to Lawal. Just a minute later, 3,000 fans cheered at Allianz Stadium. With a wide ball Philipp Wiesinger was wrong, Kara and Fountas played ideally Thomas Murg – 1-0 (7th).
Rapid was livelier, better in all respects – 2-0 was similar to the first goal: Wiesinger misplaced again with a deflected ball from Maxi Hofmann. Fountas gratefully accepted the following gift from LASK: 2-0 (minute 22). LASK tower defense Gernot Trauner, who had to go through stomach problems, was not among the athletes.
Rapid showed one-way soccer in the middle. LASK didn’t have a single shot on goal. Lawal, the best Linz, kept his team in the game. Shortly before the break, he stopped a free kick by Murg (45 + 4).
Two thirty started late. One of the assistant referee Markus Hameter had problems with his headphones and had to return to the catacombs. Dominik Thalhammer reacted, bringing Andrés Andrade for the overwhelmed Wiesinger. LASK fired through Hussein Balic for the first time in Rapid’s goal in the 48th minute, Richard Strebinger stopped him. LASK was much more aggressive. In the 52nd minute, Kara blocked Andrade’s connecting gate on the line.
Rapid was doing well on defense and it was always dangerous to advance. Murg (61) tested Lawal with a long shot from the center line. From the 66th minute LASK was outnumbered: Christian Ramsebner reached the center line too late, Fountas was missed. The Greek injured his ankle, limped briefly, but was able to continue playing.
For the most part, Rapid pushed for 3-0: Kara refueled in the 77th minute, but failed alone in front of Lawal. Linz risked even more, there was more room for Rapid: Fountas (79th) missed after a quick counterattack from a tight angle. After a super solo, Yusuf Demir (87th) scored the LASK goalkeeper. The final point was then set by Kara, who fixed the final score 3-0 (90th) after Demir’s squad.
