“We are at the beginning of crucial months that will show how we can cope with the consequences of the pandemic,” said the governor at the press conference held at the Weinzetl facility in Wiener Neustadt.
Now it is about managing the health crisis, since the end of the Christmas season, the number of infections has increased. Regardless of what has an impact in Lower Austria, the crown traffic light will turn yellow in the Korneuburg and Wiener Neustadt Stadt districts. “We will implement all the measures taken by the federal government,” Mikl-Leitner said on how to deal with the pandemic in the state.
In dialogue with companies and economic experts
The core of the press conference, however, was less the pandemic itself than its effects on the economy. For months there has been a permanent dialogue with companies and economic experts from the Chamber of Commerce. The VPNÖ government team has used the last two days to discuss the experts’ proposals for economic recovery.
The result: For the years 2020 and 2021 there will be 229 million euros in economic development in “fresh money”. The objective is to be guided by three guidelines: strengthen the regions, strengthen innovation and strengthen liquidity.
Tourism: strategy until Monday
There will be 89 million euros for the regions. Regional financing will increase by a total of ten million euros, up to 37.5 million euros per year in 2020 and 2021. And one relies on the creation of regional networks through a better interconnection of companies and educational institutions.
In addition, innovation platforms will be created, for example a health platform to enhance networking and product development.
In the field of tourism, the areas most affected by health tourism and seminars will be strengthened. They have commissioned the responsible regional councilor Jochen Danninger and the president of WKNÖ, Wolfgang Ecker, to work out the details of this tourism strategy, which has already been defined in key points, for next Monday.
Funding for innovations doubled
In the area of innovation, funding for innovation will double from € 15 million to € 30 million. This should especially benefit small and medium-sized businesses. The “DIGI4KMU” initiative, announced in May, will support businesses with digitization. There will also be a financing volume of 10 million euros in 2021.
200 companies have already submitted funding applications and up to 800 companies are expected to do so. Here you can collect up to 53,300 euros per company for digitization initiatives.
100 million to strengthen liquidity
The liquidity of the company is also promoted. It is about helping to strengthen the capital base, assume additional liabilities and increase the participation model. The state of Lower Austria will take 100 million euros into its own hands.
In total, the 229 million financing should generate an investment boost of 450 million euros.
“I call on companies to convene initiatives quickly,” says Mikl-Leitner. The motto of the state of Lower Austria is “Together to overcome the crisis and together towards the future”.
