Spectacular acquisition of the club in England: the Swiss Kyril Louis-Dreyfus becomes the new owner of the traditional club AFC Sunderland.
As the League One club announced on its website over Christmas, the previous owner, Stewart Donald, agreed to an acquisition with the 22-year-old billionaire son. This should take place in early January, as soon as the English Football League (EFL) has approved the deal.
The man from Zurich has been a huge soccer fan for years. Now he seized the opportunity that current Sunderland owner Stewart Donald has been looking to sell the club for a year and only wants to keep part of his stock.
Big name in the football business
Louis-Dreyfus is the son of the late Robert Louis-Dreyfus and Margarita Louis-Dreyfus, the former owner of Olympique de Marseille. Robert ran the sporting goods manufacturer Adidas from 1993 to 2001.
Sunderland, a club in the northeast of the country, gained greater prominence through the Netflix documentary “Sunderland ‘Til I Die”, which highlights the 2017/18 and 2018/19 seasons after relegation from the Premier League.
