US President Donald Trump has spoken of “defrauding the American people” in light of the delay in an electoral result in the US presidential elections. Trump announced Wednesday morning (local time) at the White House that he would go to the United States Supreme Court to stop another recount of the votes by mail. He also claimed electoral victory for himself without providing any proof.

“To be honest, we won,” he told White House supporters, although final results were not available from many major states. According to Edison Research, there are currently 213 voters for Trump and 220 for Joe Biden. At least 270 are required for an electoral victory.

Speaking of alleged “fraud against the nation” and “the American people” in the elections, the headline added: “We are going to the Supreme Court. We want all voting to end.” Presumably, Trump was referring to the ongoing counting of numerous votes by mail.

In some states, including particularly competitive Pennsylvania, Election Day postmarked postal votes are accepted even if they are received by authorities a few days after the election. In recent months, Trump has repeatedly denounced suspected vote-by-mail fraud, although experts and officials disagree.

Due to the corona pandemic, a particularly large number of citizens turned to vote by mail this year, but mostly sympathizers of Trump’s Democratic Party challenger Joe Biden.

Although incumbent Donald Trump declared himself the winner, hundreds of thousands of potentially decisive votes had yet to be counted in many states. Austrian cybersecurity expert Gerald Reischl expressed concern Wednesday morning that Trump would not accept an election result if the result did not turn out as he wanted. “He will contest the election and say that the computers have been tampered with,” Reischl, who works for IT company AT&S, said Wednesday morning at the Austrian-American Society (ÖAG) virtual “election breakfast”.
