The more votes that are counted, the more Trump’s lead fades on election night …
The American president does not seem to want to admit it, he goes to court in several states of the United States: either to stop the count or to request a recount.
But who really pays for the extra work?
It depends: The right to vote in the US is determined individually by each state, so there are many different regulations for counting votes.
► They are usually re-counted when the result is especially tight or when requested, for example, by a lower candidate. They can also order dishes.
Depending on who requests the count, there may be costs to the initiators.
In the state of Wisconsin, where Donald Trump’s campaign team wants to recount the votes, the president would likely have to raise several million dollars for it. The reason: according to preliminary results, his opponent Joe Biden has more than the 0.25 percentage point threshold ahead.
Some states will pay the cost if a recount changes the outcome of the election.
But most of the results only change slightly. Four years ago in Wisconsin all the votes were counted again. Trump, the winner of the election, increased his lead over Hillary Clinton by 131 votes. In the 2020 election, current numbers see Joe Biden leading the way in Wisconsin with more than 20,000 votes.
Is Trump worth every dollar?
