For the first time in a long time, fewer than 2,000 new coronavirus infections were reported in Austria on Sunday. This was the most recent case at the end of October.
On Sunday, 1,645 new infections were reported in Austria, as few new corona infections were reported since late October. The leader in the comparison of federal states is Lower Austria on December 20 with 314 new infections in the last 24 hours.

New infections since the last report are distributed among the Austrian federal states as follows:
- Burgenland: 23
- Carinthia: 146
- Lower Austria: 314
- Upper Austria: 239
- Salzburg: 145
- Steiermark: 218
- Tyrol: 124
- Vorarlberg: 141
- Vienna: 295
Large number of victims
The death toll from the corona virus remained high in Austria on Sunday. 142 more deaths were reported in 24 hours. This week, 878 infected people died, an average of 125.4 per day.
The number of intensive care patients dropped by 102 people in seven days. A week ago, 577 patients received 17.7 percent more intensive treatment. In normal wards, there was a decrease of 557 patients or 16.7 percent during this period. So there was a clear downward trend in hospitals.
