1,592 new corona infections reported in Austria

On Monday, the first day after the vaccinations began, the Ministry of the Interior and Health reported 1,592 new infections within 24 hours. The day before it had been 1,408. But that was still below the seven-day average of 1,873. However, the number of tests was slightly below the weekly average due to the holidays. The number of deaths increased from 50 to 5,931 people.

So far, 353,484 positive test results have been obtained in Austria. 326,768 (more 3,766) have been recovered. This reduced the number of actively ill people from 2,224 to 20,785 today. There are currently 2,510 people in hospital treatment, 421 of them in intensive care units. That’s 53 or seven more than the day before. New infections are distributed among federal states as follows: Upper Austria ranks first with 323, just ahead of Lower Austria (314), followed by Vienna with 242 and Salzburg with 211. Styria reported 140 new cases, Tyrol 128, Vorarlberg 105, Carinthia 85 and Burgenland 44.

From Sunday to Monday, there were 21,246 tests in Austria, just below the seven-day average of 23,464. The proportion of positive samples was 7.5 percent, which is a decrease compared to the weekly average of 0.5 percent. The seven-day incidence, the number of new infections in seven days per 100,000 population, increased slightly from 146.5 to 147.3.
