A total of 155 drugs and 79 vaccines are currently being worked on to combat COVID-19 worldwide. The Austrian Institute for Health Technology Assessment (AIHTA) has recently compiled these staggering numbers. Most of the 155 in development Medications for COVID-19 it already has approval for other (viral) infections and requires special evidence for approval against COVID-19. Of the 79 candidate vaccines again it’s so far nothing about the development stage reached
The 79 vaccine solutions that AIHTA was able to identify were separated three types of vaccine in:
Live vaccines (with weakened virus strains), Dead vaccines (with viral proteins) or gene-based vaccines (with special DNA or mRNA). Most of these projects are currently in the development stage and have not yet been approved.
Advanced medication
AIHTA then has so-called drugs or vaccines that are particularly advanced in development or those that are considered particularly promising in the specialized literature. Bullets created. These are concise short descriptions that provide additional information. In general, the AIHTA created 11 bullets on medicines and 8 on candidate vaccines.
