142 deaths from corona and 1,645 new infections in Austria

The death toll from the corona virus remained high in Austria on Sunday.

142 more corona deaths were reported in 24 hours. This week, 878 infected people died, an average of 125.4 per day. As usual, the number of new infections on Sunday was 1645 cases, below the average of the last seven days of 2342. In the hospitals 2,887 people were treated (77 less than the previous day), of which 475 were intensive (14 less).

The number of intensive care patients dropped by 102 people in seven days. A week ago, 577 patients received 17.7 percent more intensive treatment. In normal wards, there was a decrease of 557 patients or 16.7 percent during this period. So there was a clear downward trend in hospitals.

The number of active cases nationwide also fell from 1,099 to 30,290 on Sunday. So far there have been 338,854 positive test results in Austria, 303,213 of which have already survived the infection. Due to the other 142 deaths, the death toll rose to 5,351 people who have died as a result of the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic in Austria almost ten months ago.

Burgenland recorded 23 new infections, Carinthia 146 and Lower Austria the highest value on Sunday with 314 new positive tests. In Upper Austria there were 239 new cases, in Salzburg 145, in Styria 218, in Tirol 124, in Vorarlberg 141 and in Vienna 295 infected people. The seven-day incidence per 100,000 residents dropped from 195.3 on Saturday to 184.1 on Sunday.

So far a total of 3,593,276 PCR tests have been carried out in Austria, 24,990 of them in the last 24 hours, of which 6.6 percent were positive again. Despite the weekend, the number of tests was only slightly below the seven-day average of around 26,500 daily.
