More than 2,000 people are currently in quarantine in Salzburg or have traffic restrictions, 500 of them in Tennengau alone. Currently, more than 580 people are infected with the coronavirus. In Pongau the situation worsens. The state of Salzburg released a detailed summary of the figures today.
Private celebrations have led to a massive increase in infections in Tennengau and thus to a peak in Austria. Hallein district has the highest number in Austria with 235 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the last seven days (incidence of 7 days). But the corona virus is also spreading more in Pongau.

Crown numbers explode in Tennengau
Authorities now report 165 actively infected people for Tennengau alone: Another 107 positive laboratory results are available in the state of Salzburg, 53 of them in Tennengau alone. So there is currently no end in sight for the massive development of new infections in the Hallein district.
On September 1, three of the 13 Tennengau communities were affected (at least one confirmed actively infected person), 16 of 37 in Flachgau, five of 25 in Pongau, five of 28 in Pinzgau and none of 15 in Lungau. The current status: Tennengau eleven of 13, Flachgau 31 of 37, Pongau 21 of 25, Pinzgau 15 of 28 and Lungau five of 15.
Unfortunately, Kuchl is currently enjoying a peak in Austria. 841 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the last seven days are massive. “And new ones are added every day, because there are many contact persons and the authorities are very busy registering and reporting them. Here the honest help of the population is required. The question is not to find the culprit, but to break the chain of infection ”, the state medical director, Petra Juhasz, urgently appeals.
84 of the 119 municipalities affected
The infection process has been very dynamic in recent weeks, especially in Tennengau, but Pongau also seems to be increasingly affected. “With a 7-day incidence of 235, Tennengau is the leader in Austria and Pongau has passed the 100 mark. The reproduction factor also increased slightly again to 1.26. The number of active cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the state of Salzburg now exceeds 100 (101.9), and here there is a strong upward trend, ”says the head of state statistics, citing key points. 84 of the 119 municipalities are now also affected. For comparison: at the end of March, at the peak of the Crown crisis so far, it was 95, then the number dropped to just five in mid-June.
Compared to October 1 in districts
“In Tennengau, the action is concentrated in Kuchl, Adnet, Golling and Hallein, but most of the other commoners are affected as well,” Filipp said. Here is a comparison of actively infected people by district.
- October 1, 2020: Flachgau 75, Lungau 7, Pinzgau 21, Pongau 58, City of Salzburg 92, Tennengau 83

The dynamic development in Pongau too
However, there is not only a problem in Tennengau or especially in Kuchl. Among new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the last seven days, there are currently two Pongau residents in the top 5: Kuchl (841), Hüttschlag (660), St. Martin am Tennengebirge (647), Adnet (607) and Krispl (572). Urgent appeal from the Pinzgau
The infection situation in Pinzgau is currently relatively stable, but District Captain Bernhard Gratz is sure: “We don’t feel safe about it, it can affect us too quickly. That is why I say it clearly: “Reckless private parties put our entire economic existence at risk. Due to a few hours of fun and no personal responsibility, a German travel warning for Salzburg occurs and thousands of jobs are in danger. I understand that all this gets on people’s nerves at seven months, but the truth is that if precautionary measures are not taken, the health and economic consequences are fatal, ”says Gratz.
