The accident happened on Friday; Today, the 13-year-old boy died in hospital from head injuries.
Vorarlberg. The tragic accident happened on Friday: around 12:30 pm, a 50-year-old truck driver from Kissing in Germany drove his 13-year-old son to a company in Doren to collect steel beams. In order to load the steel beams onto the truck’s trailer, the man parked his truck on the side of the company hallway. A U-shaped steel beam weighing 719 kg must be loaded onto the trailer, police said.
This steel beam was hoisted into the room by a 53-year-old worker from the company using an indoor crane and briefly placed on a piece of wood to reposition the steel beam. After the chains and straps attached around the steel beam have been put into place, the steel beam must be raised again using a remote controlled indoor crane. The truck driver’s 13-year-old son was standing on the opposite short side of the U-shaped steel beam.
When the chains needed to be tightened, the steel beam became unstable and slowly tipped to one side. The 13-year-old boy tried to stop the steel beam with his hands, which was impossible due to the weight of the steel beam. When the boy noticed this, he took a step back and was hit on the head by the falling steel beam. As a result, he suffered serious head injuries and, after first aid at the scene of the accident, he was airlifted with the C8 helicopter to LKH-Feldkirch, where he died of his injuries on Sunday.
