This summer’s interview, August Alsina, exposed his “entanglement” with Jada Pinkett Smith, causing a media ruckus and forcing Jada and Will Smith to sit around the Red Table to explain what was really going on.

“It was a relationship,” Jada acknowledged about her bond with August.

The singer followed up by releasing a song called “Entanglements”, an obvious reference to his situation with the actress. Now, he explains why he went ahead with his claims in the first place, talking to people.

“I’m really a private person. People have never known much about my love life because it does not matter,” the 27-year-old told the magazine. “I never really cared about what people thought of me, but my personal life began to breathe into my business life. There were certain flaws about me, and it affected my business relationships.”

He added that the check was again a big part of the reason he told Angela Yee about his pollution with Jada.

“I will always be in the board seat of my life and master my narrative,” he said. “I can do no one else do that for me.”

As for his current relationship with the Smith family, August claims that their bond has not been completely broken.

“It’s just a part of life, and it’s a part of the journey,” he said. “There’s a lot of love there. Sometimes truth is complicated and difficult. But [my relationship with them isn’t] completely broken. “
