AUBURN, Alabama – The Auburn Tigers learned Monday that they will open their 2020 football schedule on September 26 with home game vs. home game. of the Kentucky Wildcats. A playing time and TV coverage have not yet been announced for the week one league.
The original schedule for the Tigers had a September 5th home opener vs. Alcorn State was followed by a neutral site game in Atlanta against North Carolina to be played in Atlanta.
The Tigers would originally open a league game on September 19 at Ole Miss. However, due to concerns about the covid-19 virus, the Southeastern Conference decided that all 14 of its teams would only play conference matches in the regular 2020 season and that the new opening day of the schedule would be three weeks later.
The SEC also decided to add two games to the eight-game conference schedule. Auburn picked up a home game against Tennessee and a road trip to South Carolina. The full schedule for the Tigers and the other SEC teams is set to be announced on the SEC Network at 6 a.m. Monday.
The schedule changes also include the Southeastern Conference Championship Game originally set for Dec. 5th. At Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. That prize draw is now scheduled to be played on Dec. 19th. In Atlanta.
Other SEC games announced on Monday to be played on Sept. 26. Includes Florida in Ole Miss, Georgia in Arkansas, Tennessee in South Carolina, Alabama in Missouri, Mississippi State at LSU and Vanderbilt at Texas A&M.
Auburn, coming off a 9-4 season in 2019, finished 5-3 in SEC games. Malzahn’s team was originally set to begin presidencies on August 7, but that was pushed back to today, which is also the first day for Auburn’s fall semester classes.
The first two practices are planned for shorts, while practices three and four may be in shells (shoulder pads, helmets and shorts) and the full pads may continue for practice number five. Teams are limited to 20 hours of football activity per week and five practice days per week.
