Echoing the sentiments expressed by public health experts across the country, most of the coronavirus comes from asymptomatic individuals infected with the virus but do not exhibit the telltale signs of COVID-19, says Admiral Brett Giroir, assistant secretary of the US Department of Health and Human Services.
Speaking to CNBC reportersGiroir says the United States needs to be able to evaluate everyone, even people who don’t feel sick.
“We know that most of the spread comes from asymptomatic people, especially young adults, so we have to launch a broad network and I think we can do it,” he said on the network’s “Squawk Box” program.
The asymptomatic spread of the coronavirus was identified as a component of the spread of the disease when the virus hit the United States, with facial masks being the best defense. Despite these advances in recent months as the country grapples with the social consequences of the virus, masks remain a controversial issue across the country, with some states issuing mandates to wear them in public, and others are reluctant to implement the measure.

Anthony Fauci, head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), confirmed this position while Speaking Technology CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Thursday.
“When measuring the level of virus in the nasal pharynx of asymptomatic people, compared to symptomatic people, there does not appear to be any difference, which means that there is as much virus in the nose of an asymptomatic person as there is in a symptomatic person, “Fauci said.
One of the novel features of the coronavirus is that it has a wide range of manifestations within each individual. Some show symptoms identified as cough, shortness of breath, and irritable digestion, while others are completely asymptomatic. Without a confirmatory test, asymptomatic individuals would have no way to detect an infection. This is part of what caused the virus to spread so quickly across the country.
Because of this, Giroir said the evidence in the US should be strong enough to accommodate asymptomatic people after suffering shortages during the pandemic.
“In the beginning, we had a very strict limitation of the tests, so we were really dealing with those who were symptomatic in the hospital or healthcare workers. Now, it is very, very important that we really analyze those who are asymptomatic, ”he defends. “You have to launch a wide network.”
Giroir points out that some people are asked to be reevaluated at the end of their illness, what he calls “really unnecessary.” He notes that after seven to eight days from the start of the virus, an infected individual will not be shedding active viral particles.

Giroir recognized that test response time should be reduced, with an average response time of approximately three days.
“We know how to solve this. Wearing a mask, avoiding large gatherings, going to bars particularly in those red light areas is not a good idea … and if you wear a mask and do those things, we don’t need to shut down the economy, we can keep the economy open, but we must be absolutely disciplined and diligent regarding those simple measures. ”
Along with handwashing, these public health practices indicate that the highly affected Sun Belt states – Florida, California, Arizona and Texas – are undergoing change based on hospital and case data, according to Giroir.
This occurs when several states have established daily death tolls records, increased hospitalization capacity, and when the country as a whole registered more than 70,000 new cases in one day.
