  • The Asus ROG Phone 3 has a 160Hz stealth mode.
  • You can activate the mode using an ADB command.
  • However, there aren’t many games and apps optimized for 144Hz or 160Hz.

The Asus ROG Phone 3 is paired with the likes of Red Magic 5G and Lenovo Legion Phone Duel for having the highest refresh rate on a smartphone, at 144Hz.

This high refresh rate means you can expect smoother animations as you scroll through menus and while playing games. But what if even 144Hz is not enough for you? Or maybe you’re just curious? Well, XDA Developers It has discovered that the ROG Phone 3 has a hidden option to enable a refresh rate of 160Hz.

You will have to run the ADB command adb shell setprop debug.vendor.asus.fps.eng 1 to enable this new mode. The outlet signals that you will then need to restart your phone, with the 160Hz option available through the quick mosaic of refresh rate or settings> refresh rate on the screen.

Do you want things to return to normal? Then you must enter the command adb shell setprop debug.vendor.asus.fps.eng 0 and restart the phone to achieve this. Of course, these adjustments are made at your own risk.

Higher refresh rates carry a penalty on power consumption and performance on paper as the processor has to work harder to keep things running. However, the phone has a powerful Snapdragon 865 Plus processor, so it should keep things stable at 160Hz. However, our own David Imel noted in his review of the Asus ROG Phone 3 that the device had inconsistent resistance despite the 6,000 mAh battery. So don’t expect the best battery life after switching to the 160Hz option.

Also, there aren’t many games and apps that support 144Hz refresh rates, let alone 160Hz. Still, it is really interesting to see this option on a smartphone, even if it is hidden.
