Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has Mortal Kombat-style X-ray killings

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has adopted one of the most defining features of Mortal Kombat.

You may have noticed that in Assassin’s Creed ValhallaIn the recent gameplay reveal, there was a brief moment when a Hidden Blade attack resulted in an x-ray shot showing the target’s bones fracturing as the blade slashed.

Most just assumed it was a cool moment Ubisoft wanted to launch in the trailer, you know, to improve the impact of the attack. But that is not really the case; these Mortal Kombat-like cinematic cuts are really in the game.

Valhalla game director Benoit Richer was asked to clarify this point on Twitter, to which he replied that the movement is caused by the player and that it occurs during normal play.

This is particularly new to the series, so I’m surprised that Ubisoft didn’t spend time talking about it in the game demo that followed Ubisoft Forward. However, it makes sense, given Valhalla’s emphasis on blood and beheading in combat. It will be interesting to see if Ubisoft allows players to disable them.

Commenting on Richer’s revelation, some are already asking for this, either because of their sensitivity to violent images or because they think that tens of hours will pass.
