Just a few months from launch
Ubisoft has lost the captain of his great Viking warship. Ashraf Ismail, the creative director of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, has abandoned the project.
Ismail has stopped leading Valhalla a little earlier today with the following tweet:
I am giving up my beloved project to adequately deal with the personal problems of my life. The lives of my family and mine are shattered. I’m so sorry for all the wounded in this.
– Ashraf Ismail (@AshrafAIsmail) June 24, 2020
Ismail adds “There are hundreds of talented and passionate people striving to build an experience for you that is not worth associating with. I wish you the best.”
The effect of Ismail’s departure probably won’t be felt much in Valhalla. This holiday is being launched, which means that creative direction has certainly been blocked right now. However, Ismail takes a long time Assassin’s Creed leader, having led Black Flag and origins. It is unclear whether he is leaving Ubisoft or just taking time. If it’s the first, Assassin’s Creed You will have lost an important piece that helped shape two of the best games in the series.
