The Twins will not officially meet again for preseason training for a week, and yet they have already joined other teams throughout the league with several players testing positive for COVID-19.

The Twins’ president of baseball operations Derek Falvey announced via Zoom Thursday morning that several players had tested positive for coronavirus. The team has not disclosed which players have been affected, but Falvey noted that none had been working on the team’s premises.

But what started as whispers about concerns about how fast baseball is getting back into action amid a pandemic earlier in the week has quickly expanded. The Twins joined more than half a dozen other franchises, including the Philadelphia Phillies, which have had 12 players or employees who tested positive, as teams impacted by the coronavirus still have a week for Major League Baseball to open their doors for Spring Training 2.0 on July 1.
